MEET JON BARBER

I’m Jon Barber, and I’m running to be your Portage County Sheriff.

I’m running because Portage County is my home. I grew up here., met my wonderful wife Janet here, and was blessed to raise six amazing children here. I was also proud to spend 30 years serving our community as a law enforcement officer, fighting each and every day to keep our community safe.

I believe in integrity, professionalism and accountability - something our Sheriff’s Department is sorely lacking. I also believe that excellent law enforcement requires those who lead to collaborate, to maintain transparency, and to build with the people they serve. Because every Portage County resident should have a voice at the table.

I’m running because Portage County deserves a Sheriff who represents the people, not their own interests. I hope you’ll join me.

Transparency

My office will strive to keep an open line of communication to all citizens and be available as quickly as possible to address any and all concerns you may have.

Accountability

I will constantly work with the Commissioners and the Budget division so all funds are available for review whenever someone has a concern.

Community Policing

I believe the best way to eliminate crime is to become a pillar in the community. By building trust and working with the other elected stakeholders to become part of the community.
